I have just about died trying to figure this out. As far as google and the internet is concerned, the UX280 does not exist, at least, no one asks questions about it specifically and there isn't any helpful support.

Anyways, I got this phone yesterday and I love it. Works great, nice features and I'm really satisfied. However, I wanted to dump a couple of ringtones that I had made for my old phone (Motorola) from my computer to my new UX280. I bought the right USB cable at Office Depot and I plugged the phone right into the computer no problem, heard the right noises and it detected the phone. This is where the problems begin...

First of all, nothing appears in "My Computer," even though, according to this website (http://www.fixya.com/support/t2173839-connect_lg_wine_computer - about the only useful bit of text I found) it should show up as a Mass Storage Device, similar to a flash drive. It did not.

I tried looking up similar things for other phones and they all recommend going into your settings menu and then going into connectivity submenu (which the UX280 doesn't have) and changing the USB settings from "Date Connection" to "Mass Storage." Instead the win has a PC Connection submenu that has the options of "bluetooth", "USB Modem" (Never heard of a USB 'modem' before, only cables) and "closed." Of course mine was already highlighted on USB modem, so I though I would be fine.

I then tried searching for drivers. I found a few and installed them, but I had no more luck with that either. After this I decided to give up for a while until I discovered the "LG PC Suite" probably one of the most bogus pieces of software I've ever tried using (I've used BITPim in the past, but unfortunately they don't support the UX280). I installed the PC Suite multiple times with no luck. The USB would detect my phone as a 'composite device' and would also throw in a two other LG devices in Device Manager under 'modem' and 'com ports.' I used the phone connection wizard with no luck, even though the phone was being detected via USB.

Basically I'm just curious if I picked a phone that has no compatibility or support with PCs.

I apologize I meant to say "Data Connection" not "Date Connection" and same goes for "wine" instead of "win."

I just tried using 3G Uploaders...apparently this phone's support for all this stuff is so (Edited) I can't even get a ringtone that way. Do I really have to pay (Edited) money just to customize my phone A LITTLE? I mean, seriously $13 dollars for 3 ringtones? Are you serious?

Bluetooth may offer a better solution. I just purchased a UX280 tonight and was able to pair to my PC using Bluetooth. After pairing, I selected Discover Services from the Bluetooth options for the connection. 4 options came up, one of which was the OBEX File Transfer. Selecting that option brought up two folders - Phone_Camera_Gallery and Phone_Recorded_Audio. The first contains pictures you've taken with the UX280 - had no problem transferring to my PC and viewing. The second contains audio files in .QPC format you've recorded using the voice recorder. My PC did not recognize the QPC file format, but I was able to move one test file from the phone to my PC without any problem.

If you have ringtones in the .QPC format these folders appear to be your best/only bet for copying them to the UX280. The QPC format seems to be a bit mysterious, but several software title online claim they can convert most audio files to QPC for a reasonable one-time fee.

I tried following your instructions, but I guess I messed up. My PC just charges the battery. I tried pairing, but it didn't find anything. Can you provide step by step instructions for this old novice? Thanks...Jennye

I hope this bumps the message.

I'm having the same problem, but of course, now my computer won't find ANYTHING plugged into any USB ports after I told it to safely disconnect the phone from charging, or whatever it's doing. So LG sells a product for data transfer but it doesn't actually do that? Anybody? Does LG even troll this community?

JennyeK,

How are trying to hook up to your UX280? I can help you with that but If you're trying to connect via USB, you're not going to have any Data services available other than USB Modem. USB Modem is only good if you didn't have any other access to the internet. The UX280 doesn't have a MicroSD card slot and that's what you would need to transfer RingTones to your phone... You can connect to the UX280 if your PC has Bluetooth capabilities and that would allow you to get pictures and Voice Memos off of the phone to your PC.

It would have been really nice to know that before I wasted 50 dollars on the cable!!! That bit of information is nowhere to be found on the internet, LG site, or the manual for the phone.

I apologize for the sparse information on the data capabilities, or lack of, on the Wine. The Wine was intended to be more of a basic phone so there wasn't a MicroSD slot included or additional internal Memory for Multimedia.

Unfortunately yes... You will have to send them via MMS to an email account which works okay but can be expensive if you don't have the right Data Plan.
