Hey Shal,

The "Two Step Unlock" option on the EnV2 does do a sequence reset if any key other than "CLR" is pressed. This drastically reduces "butt-dialing" even in "mash-down" conditions. The 06 to current firmware for the EnV2 is great.

To echo the above posts, the phone comes unlocked WAY too easily and this problem needs to be addressed. I have tried using a stiff leather belt holster and have still leaned up against the center console in the car and found music coming from my phone, or the bluetooth menu up, or pictures shown or numbers dialed. I then tried a plastic holder where you clip the phone into it. If you clip it in with the keypad buttons to the outside, you have the same problem. This particlar clip also allows you to clip the phone with the keypad to the inside. Problem solved? Not really. The plastic holder is fliexible enough that buttons will get pushed if you sit in a chair, get in the car, etc. I took a small piece of styrofoam type material and glued it to the plastic holder so that it would touch just above the up arrow key when the phone was in the clip. This spacer keeps the OK button away from the inside of the clip. This has helped considerably.

I think there should be an option for the keypad to unlock by pressing the camera key on the left side of the phone body. When the phone is locked, the camera key does nothing and would be available to use as an unlock key. This key is pretty well protected by the overhang of the clamshell and is convienent to use with the forefinger or thumb (depending on which hand you hold the phone). To be even safer, one might click the camera key and then the OK key to unlock.

On another note, I CANNOT BELIEVE that I have to first unlock the phone in order to answer it. I guess some people might want that to be sure they don't accidentally answer a call while the phone is in their pocket; but it should be a configuration option because I REALLY hate that and it isn't how other phone brands I use work.

Where is the key guard setting? I can't find it. Thanks.

From the external screen of the phone, press menu, and move over to the Key Guard setting.

I registered on this forum for the sole purpose of supporting this thread. I too am having problems with pocket dialing, even with the double-press feature. The problem is that the OK button is the highest point on the phone face. I would greatly appreciate a different button to unlock, or a two-button approach like * + CLR or something similar.

Like otherS, I registered just because this phone is DRIVING ME CRAZY. I love the phone itself other than the unlocking problem. I don't mind pushing keys to unlock it. I did carry it in my pocket but that didn't work so I purchased a holster for it, I've tried it in the holster both with keys in/keys out. It either dials a random number, shuts off, plays music or turns on my bluetooth constantly. Even while in the holster, I can "press" on the holster twice, and the third time who knows what will happen. I too only shop for LG phones but am sorely disappointed in this one & am stuck with it due to the contract.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

So, Does LG even read these blogs??? It's been THREE (3) months since an LG representative has posted on this topic.

SOME reply would be nice! At least to know that LG is listening and is working on the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

I apologize for the delay we did have a gap in service there but now it is being monitored... I have escalated on the enV3 "Butt Dialing" and I'll have to see what feed back I get on this subject... I know this is a sore point and I'll try to get some resolution.

To LG Product Pro
Please ask for an immediate firmware change like the ENV2. A two key consecutive unlock ("ok" then "clr" ). That simple. It solved my ENV2 butt dialing problem. My wife just got the ENV3 which I assumed had the same fix, but to my surprise you just have to hit "ok" twice and you can hit any other key in between the first and second and it doesn't require you to hit "ok" again. I'm afraid we'll have to return to verizon within the 30 day return window if not fixed in the next 15 days. HELP! YOUR PRODUCT TEAM NEEDS TO FIX ASAP!

The Env3 is obviously a "desk" model phone as it is impossible to depend on it to work properly while carrying it with you.

I am looking to see what we can do about this. It has been mentioned several times and is becoming a real frustration. Let me see if I can get us some help.

I was shocked when I bought this phone and it had such a limited keypad lock. I always keep the phone in my pocket and it butt-dials constantly. I am thinking about getting a different phone, pleeeeeeease update the software.

To LG Product Pro,
Thanks for the quick response. Please tell the product team to fix asap. I love my env2 with the fix. I like the env3 however the butt dialing is killing me. My return window is closing fast and i hate going through the return procedure. Everyone I'm talking to is saying they are staying away from the env3 cause of this keyguard problem.

Can't the product team "cut and paste" the env2 firmware fix?

By the way, What version of Software is your phone now running? ( You can look under "Phone Info" in the Settings Menu)

LG Product Pro,
I don't know what software version i have as i don't have the phone on me, but i've had the phone less than a month so i'm assuming the latest version. My return to verizon within 30 day clock is ticking so anything you can do to expedite the fix will be appreciated.

by the way, i'm assuming you work at LG and are connected with env2 / env3 product team? is that correct?

if so, they should be able to confirm the keyguard oversight with whatever the latest software version is.

I have found the reason to the "Butt Dialing", I need others to verify that the same steps cause your phone to unlock, and if it does please respond so LG knows. I have gotten so frustrated that I finally was just messing with it to find the issue as I suspected it was a hardware/software issue. I went to VZ, but they were not much help. Guess I must go to the source.

The following are the combinations I have recently found that cause my phone to unlock without pressing OK.

"Send" + "9" + "#"
"Send" + "8" + "0"
"Send" + "7" + "*"

Hope this can get fixed.

Thanks,

Josh

Thanks for the Feed back It looks like it took a while to figure out the key combinations... I'm trying to get the attention of the right people to see if we can get something done... I'll let you know what I find out.

Although those key combinations may unlock the keypad I don't feel that is the main cause. The problem is that the "OK" key is the tallest key on the pad. Try this - lay the phone face down on a hard surface. Now firmly press it down 3 times. Pick it up and look at the screen. It will be unlocked and any other press on a key will register.

When it is in your pocket exactly the same thing happens when something - anything - presses against it. The "OK" key should have been recessed not protruding. But since we are stuck with this design flaw a software fix is needed to compensate.

Great Comments! The enV3 is one of my favorite phone, and although I've never "butt Dialed with mine, I have come close! I am passing these comments on to see if we can get the issue resolved... I'll let you know.

I appreciate your appreciation of our comments.

Your January 27th response is a copy of your September 15th, 2009 response. I hope your not just stringing us along until our 30 day satisfaction guarantee return period expires. As I previously mentioned, I'm going to have to return my env3 since my 30 day return period is just about up and don't want to keep my fingers crossed hoping for a fix.

I appreciate your responses, but it seems like LG isn't listening, so I guess they'll have to see the return data from Verizon. Ugh.

I'm sorry to be repetitive, but I am trying to find a solution. I understand your need to know quickly and I'm sorry this issue has taken so long. I'm trying one more avenue to see if I can get an answer. I should know by tomorrow whether an update is on the way or not.
It's not that LG Doesn't care it's just communication issues we are working on resolving in order to provide customers with timely information. Obviously it's a work in progress... If you have a couple of days to wait, I'd hang one untill Monday.. If not I understand.
Personally I love the enV3 it's the phone I keep going back to. Even though I haven't "Butt Dialed" anyone I have come close a couple of times. I do understand your need for the locking issue to be resolved. Let me see what I can find out.
