I am up for my new every two upgrade next week and am considering the Env 3. I know of three people personally who have had the random shut off issue that is widely reported. I have seen where a software upgrade was supposed to have fixed this. Can anyone shed some light on this? |

This software update did address power cycling issues. I personally use this phone most often and have enjoyed its reliability and features. |

I just upgraded mine to the software version VX920V05 and it's still shutting down randomly, sometimes as often as 7 times per day. Thinking I was inadvertantly hitting the power button while carrying the phone in my pocket, I tried setting the unlock kepad to require the double-tap of the ok button, and that didn't help. I've even locked the phone through the security menu to where it requires a password to unlock, and that didn't help either. But then I noticed it has shut down even when it wasn't in my pocket, just when it was sitting on my desk. I don't know what the deal is with this phone. I love the features and everything about this phone except for this annoying malfunction. I have sent LG a support email about it, just a minute ago actually since I found this site. And I will take my phone back to Verizon maybe today or tomorrow and see what they will offer to do. But I think if they give me another ENV3 it's just going to have the same issue, which really stinks because Verizon doesn't even offer any other phones that I would like better than the ENV3. We'll see what happens, I guess. |

I gave up waiting on LG to do something. They replied with "we recommend taking the phone to your service provider and having them update to the newest version of the software." Duh. I already updated the software to V05, and it still shuts down, as I had already explained to them in my email. So I called Verizon Customer Service. They are sending me a new phone, which should be here in a couple of days. We'll see if it does the same thing. |

Got the like-new replacement phone yesterday. And I have to admit it is really like-new. Actually in better condition than the one I'm sending back to them, but not much better. Anyway, I activiated it this morning, and transferred all my junk over to this phone. So far it's been in use for only about an hour and the only work it's done is to send 1 text and recieve 1 text. So it hasn't randomly shut-down yet, but it's still early. I'll be surprised if it makes it a day. We'll see. I hope it does.

Well, it's been a few days now and no shutoffs. I guess maybe my phone was a lemon.

Well, the replacement was good for a while, but now it's started shutting off randomly as well. It's not as frequent as my first phone, but it's still annoying. |

My Fiance has this phone and its shutting off all the time too. Yesterday twice when she went to send a text it shut off during the send. I have a VERSA and it is rebooting randomly several times a day. This weekend we're taking them both back. After my experience with the VERSA it will be the last LG I own. If something doesn't happen with Verizon having more reliable phones I'll bet switching providers at the end of this contract. |

While not the exact problem I'm having, it's related to it. When I first got the phone, there was an update available, on the 25th. I didn't know what to do to accept, and I inadvertly rejected it. When I go to check for updates, it doesn't find any. Any help? |

You have to get the USB/Charger cable (should've came with the phone) and go to LG's website and look under the support section for the enV3 and download the updater. Then before plugging the USB cable into your computer, run the update program, it will automatically install the USB cable drivers, and then it will ask you to plug your phone in to the computer. When you do that, it will verify everything is ok, then it will download and install the newest software version and then reboot your phone. There is a warning on this updater that you may lose all your personal data (contacts, pictures, music, etc) after the update is completed, but I've updated mine twice now (first to V05 then to V06), and I haven't lost anything. Good luck! Or if you don't want to do all of that, you can just drop your phone off at just about any Verizon store and tell them you want the software updated. And I think they do it for free. If there is a charge for this, it's probably not a lot. But I think it's free. |

Well, here's the latest. As I already said, the replacement enV3 was starting to shut off randomly after about a couple weeks of use. So after I got annoyed enough, I contacted customer service again. The guy said they could replace it again. I asked him if they could replace it with a different model phone, since I really don't want to go to all the trouble of moving all my contacts and data over to this replacement phone, just to have it do the same thing in a couple of weeks. He said, I have to get it replaced with an enV3 one more time, and if it still has this problem, then they could talk about replacing it with a different model. So he transferred me to tech support, so they could troubleshoot my problem. I explained the whole situation to the lady. She said, I needed to update the software, because apparently there was a new version out that just came out a couple weeks ago, that supposedly fixed the random shut-off issue. Version VX920V06. She wasn't aware that you could update the software yourself from LG's updater program. So I told her that I had done that with my previous phone, to V05 and it didn't fix the problem. So she asked me to update this replacement phone to V06 and she would call me in a couple of days to see if it resolved the problem. It didn't. She had tried to call me a couple times this weekend, but I didn't have my phone on me when she called so she left a message saying she'd call back. So anyway, this morning I was wondering when she would call back, and I picked up my phone off of my desk to see what time it was, and lo and behold, the my phone wasn't on. lol So I turned it on, and thought to myself, now would be a really good time for her to call. I would tell her, "sorry I missed your call, my phone randomly shut it'self off. Try again later." lol So anyway, she did call back in about 20 minutes. And I told her the deal. She offered to replace it with a Samsung Alias 2, which in my opinion is a descent phone, but it's not really one I would pick. I actually did consider that phone when I got the enV3, (I used to own the Alias 1) but I didn't like the fact that the directional keys and ok button were the same shape and size as all the rest of the buttons, and so you would have to look at the phone for everything and could do nothing by feel. But I said, that would be fine, because I was tired of dealing with the enV3. Well, they were out of stock of the Alias 2's and so she said, she would talk to her supervisor and ask if they could replace it with something else, and what would be available. So she said she'd call back later. So I was thinking about it later, and I thought to myself, "I waited 2 years to update my old Motorola KRIZR and I did a lot of research and picked the phone best for my needs. So since the phone is a piece of junk and can't even stay on, why should I have to just take whatever replacement they offer me? I should have at least a few choices to pick from." So I called them back. I got a different person, so I had to explain everything again. When I first mentioned them replacing it with something other than the Alias 2, she was like "well, sir we have a matrix that show which phones can be substituted for other phones, etc, and we have to go by that matrix." Then I explained to her, that I have been a Verizon customer for over 10 years. My wife is a Verizon cutomer. My parents are both Verizon customers because of my recommendation. And I just don't understand why I have no choice in the replacement. As long as what I want is available, and is similarly priced, why can't I choose? So she asked, what phone I wanted to replace it with. I told her the LG Dare. She said, let me check. She said, it would have to have a manager's approval but she saw no reason they wouldn't approve it, since it is similarly priced. So hip hip hooray!!!!!! The only reason I got the enV3 in the first place, is because they Dare had been discontinued. So I am finally going to get my Dare. YAY!!!! I've owned a Dare before, but returned it because I was being indecisive. I regretted returning within a week. So I know I like this phone, and it doesn't shut off unless you hit the power button. So I am a happy Verizon customer once again. And for what it's worth, the Dare is an excellent phone. If any of you can manage to get them to replace yours for this issue, I would highly recommend replacing it with the Dare. For those who must have a physical qwerty, of course the Dare is not for you. But I could take or leave a physical qwerty as long as the touch qwerty is good, which the Dare's touch qwerty is the best I've ever seen aside from the iPhone.

To answer the original poster. No, even the latest software update V06 still has not resolved the power cycling issue on the enV3. It would've been a very nice phone except for two issues, the power cycling, and the camera took terrible pictures for a 3MP. I am a happy Dare owner now, and I have a much better camera and no power-cycling to worry about. Still an LG fan, but not an enV3 fan anymore. Hope everyone else who has this issue, gets it resolved somehow. |

How many times did u have to get the env3 replaced before getting the option of another model phone? I have an env touch thats been doing the same thing as far as turning off, freezing, rebooting, and terrible battery life and have gone through 3 phones within the past 3 weeks so I was checking to see what other options I might have. |

I have an env touch thats been doing the same thing as far as turning off, freezing, rebooting, and terrible battery life and have gone through 3 phones within the past 3 weeks so I was checking to see what other options I might have. Well the customer service guy (the first person you talk to when calling customer service) told me I had to have it replaced with the same model twice before they would consider replacing it with a different model. So the third replacement can be a different model, but even then you have to ask them for it, or they won't volunteer it. But the thing is, I had only had mine replaced once with the same model, and then the second replacement was with the Dare. So either they Customer Service guy didn't know what he was talking about, or they made an exception because they know that my problem was a known problem with the enV3, and there was no point in replacing it again with the same model. But they wanted to give me an Alias2, but I asked them if I could pick whatever phone I wanted as long as it was basically the same price. And they said ok. You just have to kind of be a little insistent with them. You can't just take their first offer, if you know what I mean. Kinda like buying a car. lol But it was the tech support people who made the decision for me to replace it with different model, and allowed me to choose what model I wanted. So don't argue with the first guy you talk to too much, because he's not the one who will make the decision. He will just transfer you to technical support so they can "troubleshoot" your problem. It's those guys who will be able to make the decision to give you a different model. I hope that helps. |

No charge for software update! Just had mine done, the VX902V06, to be exact, series of software is out, apparently just released on the 25th or 26th of January. Thanks for the info, didn't realize you could update it from the LG Website. Will check back occasionally for updates. |

Obviously the 06 software has not cured the random shut off's. I took my phone to the Verizon store and they confirmed the latest software, did a *228 and then patted me on the head and wished me a good day. On on the way home from the store the phone shut off. It has done it several times since which I find completely unacceptable. When will someone accept responsibility for the phone (LG or Verizon) and create a fix for it? |

Yeah, I had Version 6 on mine too and it didn't help. And I guess I'll go back to my previous "I'll never buy an LG product again" rant, because I'll be recieving my third Dare tomorrow. lol On my first, the Mobile Email shortcut quit working for some reason, and the tech support couldn't figure it out, so they replaced it. On my second one, the screen separated a little in the middle. And so you can see the fluid inside. It looks like oil, all rainbow colored. Apparently the way a resistive touch screen works is there are actually two thin screens sandwiched together, and there is some kind of fluid between them. Normally it's so tight that you can't see the fluid, but the screen is messed up so I can see it. And occaisionally the touchscreen just won't respond at all to my touch. Hopefully the third phone will be fine. We'll see. I wish Verizon would switch to Samsung or Nokia or some other brand as their flagship, so they could get the top of the line phones from those companies, instead of the rejects, and move LG to the back burner. That iPhone and AT&T are really starting to tempt me at this point. |

I, too, have had this problem with the EnV3. I've had the update just two weeks ago. Still shutting off. What is bad is I work for a retailer that sells these phones, and have recommended them constantly. Before mine started acting up. Now I steer people away. I'm going to the Verizon store Monday and camping out until they give me something that isn't LG. This is my first and last LG. The one thing I have noticed from my several friends that also have this phone is that only the blue ones have the problem. Anyone having the same problem with the maroon? |

Interesting about the color....my son has a blue one and his started shutting down about 5 times a day after he had it about 3 months. I have a maroon one and has never shut down. MY problem is the echoing of my voice about 50% of the time when talking to non Verizon customers. It's very aggravating!!!! I have version V02 and so does he. Maybe we should do the updates?? |
