I'm new to these forums, which is why this response is a little late.
My service usually works great, until I went on vacation this past week. We're in "the boonies", so to speak, but there is a cell tower near here. The signal at the top of my phone has now completely switched to 1X with 4 bars. I can't send and receive picture/video messages and can no longer send texts over 160 characters. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Do you have any indications that you are "Roaming" or utilizing a tower from a different carrier? This could effect your features...
This first thing I would try would be to pull the battery out of the phone, with the power on (Not Plugged in charging) Leave the battery out for about a minute and then replace it and power back up. This will clear out all of the temporary Memory information so it has to reacquire it. The phone reloads all of the info about the Cell towers in the area. Are you sure the Tower in your vicinity is a Verizon Tower? Have you checked the Verizon Coverage Map or called Verizon Support to see what kind of coverage they have where you are at? Even with only '1X' coverage you should be able to send large text messages and possibly Pictures... I'm thinking that you might not be able to send Video due to the file size and slow Network connection, but basic features should be okay.
