I am on my 4th LG Rumor in a months time! It's amazing how people think the solution is to give you another one. Has the whole wolr gone to the Walmart thought process? "Oh that doesn't work? Here, have another one!"

I bought the Rumor back in May and in the last month, have had to have it replaced 4 times! First it was because the phone would turn off and on all by itself. Then it would freeze up so I'd have to pull the battery off it to regain usage. Then I would lose audio contact during calls. (The phone was still on the network with a full signal, but nobody could hear anything.) So I took it in to be looked at after finding out from other Rumor owners that they too had similar issues. The phone was replaced and all was good..... for about 3 minutes!

The second phone had a jammed volume control button, so the tech looked at it and a minute later returned saying it was the sliding mechanism that caused it. (Saying it was not aligned, even though it slide just as smooth as it should.) Well what they REALLY did was press very hard on the volume button to release it and in turn broke the vibration function on the phone. (Which I discovered the next day after missing several calls.) So I took it inot another Sprint store and they replaced the phone again for a third time. (The tech told me the vibration was broken when the volume button was "forced" to move.)

I upgraded my service to include the data package on October 14th, 2008, which worked great for about 10 days. On Friday the 24th, I wasn't able to access email or Instant Messaging. I would get error messages for each saying it was an internal server or system error. To check my settings. Well I couldn't even delete the accounts! So I took it into Sprint yet again.... They had to call tech support because they had never seen this. They checked for data blocks and there weren't any. So Sprint opened a repair ticket and said wait 36 hours for a call back. (That call came today.... 120 hours later. That's 5 days versus 1 1/2) Sunday I took it into another Sprint store. They looked at it for 3 hours and told me it was my "phone number" causing the issue so they would open another repair ticket.... (still waiting on that 36 hour call back.) They also told me they had called the store where I lived and that the store manager "Craig" said he would replce the phone with a different model if the phone could not be repaired. While looking at my phone they managed to not only to NOT fix my phone, but delete the ringtones I had downloaded and make it so I wasn't able to access ANY of the premium services I had been able to access despite the email and IM issues. So now I have a phone that makes calls and sends pics and texts, nothing else!

On Tuesday October 28th, I went into the store where I live and asked for Craig, just as I was told two days prior. Guess what, Craig was off Tuesday. What are the odds? I explained what I was told, Craig was called, and I was informed that he had NOT said he'd replace it! So I took it to the repair center and they looked the phone for 30 minutes and came out with the fourth Rumor phone for me. He said, "Here you go. Hopefully you won't have the same issues, just don't use the internet for 2 hours." Two hours later....still wouldn't work! So I called Sprint and after 1 hour, 38 minutes and 32 seconds on the phone with a Supervisor, the only thing I got was "We'll call you back in an hour and try to run through a process to fix it. We're pretty sure we can do it." Well almost 2 hours later..... the phone seems to be okay. But I'm just waiting till it happens again.

LG should be ashamed of this phone to be honest. While the concept is great, the hardware/software is terrible. I don't know anyone who LOVES their Rumor, everyone has an issue with it similar to my own. I know several people who have activated old phone because neither Sprint nor LG are willing to own up to this. I too will be going back to my old phone too if I have another issue with the Rumor. This is the worst phone I have ever owned. I will never have a nice thing to say about it to anyone.

I know how you feel. I'm currently on my 3rd Rumor. It kept powerccling and unfortuantely, by the time i got to the Sprint store, it'd been 30 days so i can't return it. They gave me a new phone. The 2nd one powercycling every two mintues I was on the internet and it wouldn't set up my email account on my phone. I took that one back and they gave me another Rumor. It still powercycles but not as often. The people at the Sprint store told me to wait for LG to come out with another phone because they don't currentl have another phone on the Will list to replace the Rumor with. So I'm stuck with this phone until they come out with another one or I can buy another phone. LG totally let me down with this phone

You know the best part of all of this is that the Sprint store blames the corporation for not being able to do anything and the corporation says the stores operate as individual enteties so they can't "force" them to help you out. Doesn't the corporation ultimately OWN the name brand these stores are selling? Just more corporate run around. One blames the other so you will continue to spin while they search frantically for a solution. On Tuesday (Oct. 28th) Sprint told me to contact LG and maybe they would replace the phone for me! so the plo thinkens. By the way, my 4th Rumor recycled twice today while trying to check my email....... can't wait to see how the 5th one acts!

Thought I would add that while in a Sprint store Saturday with a friend, we both witnessed a Sprint store employee tell a NEW customer who on their own asked about getting a RUMOR, that they did NOT want to get that phone and immediately took them over to the new Samsung Rant! Hmmmmmm?

@ScottyV.. I'm a bit confused by your post. Sprint does not own LG. They sell their phones. Joe's Chevy does not OWN Chevrolet, and Chevrolet does not OWN the local Chevy dealership. They have their own agreements, though. It seems that several people have had problems with the Rumor. Now LG will give you support.. but it obviously is going to take a little longer to accomplish than if you were to just bring your broken unit back to Sprint.

Sprint has the worst customer service on the planet. Verizon (who seems to love LG phones), for example will switch you out to a different model if you get 4 of the same phone and they are bad. I know that doesn't help you, but it just goes to the point that you get what you pay for. Sprint is a struggling company, largely because their CS stinks. LG will have a lot more flexibility, and it seems as if their customer service is a bit more considerate..

Phones aren't like cars in the sense that it's cheaper for a manufacturer and/or a dealer to repair the unit than to just replace it. Phones don't cost a lot to make. They are a pain to repair. It's much easier for a company like Sprint to simply replace it with a refurbished unit. Don't expect them to fix your faulty phone. They just send 'em back to LG for a credit, or to a repair center to refurbish them.

I know it's not good news, but it's the reality of things right now. You have two options.. get really aggressive with Sprint, be the annoying customer. It seems as if they want to see how bad you want something from them. Fight them long enough and they will give you anything to just leave them alone. Only thing is, you'll have to deal with CS in India and the Philippines many times before finding one that can actually depart from their script long enough to help. Your second option is to deal with LG. From what I've seen, you send in your phone to them, and they will send you back a working one. Could take a while in the mail.

The only other option is to sell your rumor on ebay, cut your losses, and buy a different device.

I have just received word that LG Repair will repair any 260 (Rumor) that is determined to have a charger port issue and the phone is still within warranty. Please call LG Customer Service to receive a Return Authorization number. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, however if you read my post carefully, you'll understand what I am saying.

I KNOW Sprint does not own LG, just as LG does not own Sprint. The point is when one fails they blame the other instead of making good on the overall product. (The product here is the customers satisfaction.) In a phone call that lasted one hour and thirty-eight minutes, a Supervisor offered to call the store and work out a "DEAL" so I would be satisfied. However, they were unable to establish that contact. (Must have been using a Rumor!) But the reality is that one should come through if it is OBVIOUS that the other is failing. The back and forth is ridiculous. THAT is what makes the customer service suck. Not the location or the script they follow. We all have things that our job "requires" us to do that ticks people off. In that we too are following a script. They're called rules, guidelines, and perhaps standard operating procedures.

Either way I can all but guarantee you that the LG Rumor is about to become extinct as other manufactures produce far better products. Maybe they can sell their stores or the company on ebay and start up Chevy dealerships just like Joe! Because selling my Rumor to someone else would be cruel. In the reality of things, there are better laws in place to protect me when buying a car that buying a phone!
